This is my first maple neck. What's customary with maple - - - pore filler? Damfino. Thanks! |

You don’t need a pore filler. If it’s got some figure some shellac or epoxy helps bring that out. Then finish as usual. |

I have wiped on a coat of Z-Poxy and wiped off. Not for the pore fill but because Z-Poxy brings out the curl in maple. Then finished with normal finish. Kent |

Kent Thar's what I had in mind, and I've done that on other-species necks. This one has such dramatic figure; I want to emphasize it. Thanks! |

If you have offcuts of the maple i'd make three test pieces using Z-poxy, shellac and boiled linseed oil. Each brings out flame but in slightly different ways, use whichever you like best! |

Have you thought about an oil finish? it pops the grain and feels wonderful. I like true oil for Maple necks. |
